It's Hard Out Here For Who?
I have to admit that I only tuned in to the Academy Awards to watch Three Six Mafia perform the signature number from the film "Hustle & Flow".
I was utterly embarassed yet eagerly anxious to see how the performance would be recieved. One of my co-workers invited me to her Oscar watching party, but I would've been incredibly uncomfortable watching it with them.
I was hoping that neither Terrence Howard nor Taraji Henson would be apart of the spectacle that was to take place on stage. My hopes dimmed when I saw Taraji on stage. As the stage lit up and the dancers began to move, my eyes were glued to the television set. My feeling of embarassed me turned into a big smile...and then a huge rumble of laughter.
When the performance was done, even I had to admit that it wasn't a bad number. Taraji P. Henson made it a classic. Aside from her terrible scream in the end, it was almost priceless. I'm glad I didn't do what 3,4276,234 of negros and ignore performance. I'm not remorseful for watching. I was...I was...*gulp*...impressed.
Until...I saw that Three Six Mafia won the Academy Award for Best Song. I swear I heard one of those dudes curse during the acceptance speech. *sigh* So sad. Damn...

I was studying when it was on so I missed the whole spectacle. Apparently, their acceptance speech was so cluttered and muffled, people needed subscript to understand them...? Is that cuz they got too much grills in their mouths? They need to QUIT.
I have mixed feelings about it all, especially since I didn't see it. You wanna be happy and celebrate black folk, but then you wonder...why do they only award us when we do things that they've stereotyped us into ie. as in rapping about pimpin'?
One has to ponder...
